Our kitchen is updated, and the kids are excited! The snack wagon took its maiden voyage of the 2015/16 school year onto the playground for recess Monday, helmed by Meredith and Ina, two of our amazing parent volunteers.
We served organic local strawberries and Gala apples, grown at Bizjak Farms in Beamsville. The snack program will operate five days per week, through rain, sleet and snow, with a fresh fruit and veggie going out each day at morning recess. We will start introducing add-ons like cheese, sesame-free hummus and sunflower seed butter in early October.
Kindergarten snack will be delivered to classrooms each morning and afternoon, Monday to Friday. We have a team of volunteers who cut up and serve over 350 pounds of produce each week, and also facilitate delivery of the milk program each day.
We can always use more help in the kitchen! If you have an hour per week we need you! It’s a fun, energetic morning chopping produce and chatting with other parents. The chance to visit the school yard and see your child playing at recess is an added bonus! Plus, we have coffee!
