Kimberley Junior Public School adds to Upper Beach Neighbourhood Beautification

Toronto, ON (October 30, 2019) – This past Tuesday parents (and kids) from Kimberley Junior Public School and Beaches Alternative School attached wooden butterflies to the school yard fence facing Main St. in part of a beautification project.

The school councils knew they wanted to add some colour and fun not only to the school yard but to the corner of Main and Swanwick that has been home to these 2 schools since 1887. They raised the funds through various school initiatives and each class participated by having the kids paint the butterflies.

The decision to use butterflies stems from the schools’ Principal Lilian Hanson’s well known (within the school community) love of butterflies. Last year Hanson announced she would be retiring in June 2020, and this seemed the perfect opportunity and way to honour her and her time at Kimberley and Beaches.

Volunteers – parents and kids from the school – rolled up their sleeves and got to work. After the students each painted a butterfly, the butterflies were individually varnished and now adhered to the fence.

Kimberley School Council Chair, Megan Meeds said: “Parents from Beaches and Kimberley were on a mission to get the butterflies on the fence before the weather gets cold. We hope this initiative brings a smile to the faces of those who walk by the yard. Thanks to all who helped bring this project to life!”

With all the new additions and recent changes to the immediate neighbourhood on Main St. this seemed like a perfect time to show how appreciative the Kimberley and Beaches community are of their school, their principal and their neighbourhood.
